Mount Qingcheng is one of the birthplaces of Taoism. It is known as the fifth of The Ten Great Grotto Heavens and is called the Nine-Room Grotto Heaven of Precious Immortality. It is associated with many immortals. The customs associated with Mount Qingcheng profoundly influenced early Taoism. In the late Eastern Han Dynasty, Taoist leader Zhang Daoling went to the Sichuan area. To remove the influence of witchcraft, Zhang issued a series of religious reform measures in the name of the Grand Supreme Elderly Lord. These measures were welcomed by the local people, and therefore more and more people became believers of the Way of the Five Pecks of Rice, which finally prevailed over witchcraft. Zhang Daoling founded the Way of the Five Pecks of Rice, which finally evolved into the Way of the Celestial Masters sect of Taoism, the dominant sect of Taoism.
