Mount Wutai witnessed the fusion of ethnic cultures in ancient China, and culturally blended Han and Tibetan Buddhist buildings. Tibetan Buddhism was introduced to the hinterland in the Yuan dynasty; in the Ming and Qing dynasties, the Dge-lugs-pa sect of Tibetan Buddhism flourished on Mount Wutai, and many Dge-lugs-pa temples were built from reconstructed Han Buddhist temples; Tibetan Buddhist structures, furnishings and statues became elements of Han Buddhist temples, leading to the integration of Han and Tibetan Buddhist cultures.
