Fujian has around 250 Wufeng (Five-Phoenix) tulou buildings, also called mansion tulou buildings, primarily located in Yongding County. Among Fujian tulou buildings, Wufeng tulou buildings are most similar to Chinese courtyard-based folk houses. However, Wufeng tulou buildings are preferably located on mountain slopes that are higher in the north and lower in the south, making the architectural complex impressive and have terraced roofs and appear as if located in a fairyland. The most popular local legend about the origin of Wufeng tulou buildings is the legend about Lady Yu.
