{{heritageName}} : Yangliuqing Town

Yangliuqing Town in Tianjin was called “Liukou” in ancient times, because the town abounds with willows (liu), rivers and lakes. After the Grand Canal became a unified means of communication, Yangliuqing Town became an important post away from the capital. Commercial activities generated by the Grand Canal and Caoyun not only promoted the development of the town, but also gave rise to Yangliuqing’s New Year woodblock print industry. As the largest Chinese New Year woodblock print production and sales base in history, Yangliuqing Town, taking advantage of the Grand Canal, which facilitated transport of goods and cultural exchanges and integration between north and south China, allowed better development of Chinese New Year woodblock prints and influenced Suxian County of Anhui, Xuzhou of Jiangsu and other New Year woodblock print production bases along the Grand Canal.
