{{heritageName}} : Witching and Ceremonial Red Used by Shandingdong Man

The Shandingdong (Upper Cave) Man Site is closely adjacent to the Peking Man Site. Shandingdong Man was late Homo sapiens living 18,000-11,000 years ago. In the cave was found a tomb, from which were found three intact skulls and other bones, on which were found red hematite powder. From the cave were also unearthed perforated teeth of beasts, stone beads and other ornaments, as well as a bone needle, reflecting the aesthetics and workmanship at that time. To Shandingdong Man, red was not only stimulative, but also began to be witching and ceremonial.
