{{heritageName}} : Unique Diaolous

Diaolous (fortified multi-storey towers) from the Republic of China period, though appearing in varied, unique forms, are equally characterised by unadorned middle and lower parts and an adorned upper part. After investigation and study, an expert concluded that practically, the unadorned middle and lower parts of a diaolou could prevent bandits from climbing up, thus enhancing security, whilst adorning the eye-catching upper part could show off wealth as the owner expected. The uniqueness of Diaolous is associated with well-rounded design philosophies and an era-specific culture.
