The Jinshanling Great Wall, situated on the Yanshan Mountains, is 125 km from Beijing. It extends more than 50 km from the Wohu Mountain at Gubeikou in the west to the Wuling Mountain in the east, and was built by Qi Jiguang when he served as Commander in Chief of Jizhen Town. The Jinshanling Mountains are precipitous and of highly strategic significance, and was an important pass of Jizhen Town. The Jinshanling Great Wall is strongly fortified, and has imposing buildings. It is an outstanding section of the existing Great Wall.

In the first year of the Longqing reign, Qi Jiguang went north as ordered by the emperor. In the second year, he began to guard Jizhen Town, and stayed there for 16 years. He established infantry, chariot and cavalry troops, selected military officers, trained troops, built border walls and watchtowers, improved weapons, and proactively interacted with officials of the central and local governments.

Qi Jiguang was best remembered for his courage and leadership in the fight against Japanese pirates along the east coast of China. He also successfully defended the frontier when he guarded Jizhen Town. He was a great national hero in Chinese history.
