Fu Hao’s Tomb at Yin Xu, discovered northwest of Xiaotun Village, Anyang, Henan in 1976, is so far the only intact, dated tomb of an identified member of the imperial family of the Shang dynasty ever excavated.
Fu Hao was the wife of King Wuding of the Shang dynasty in the 12th century BC, and was the first recorded (on oracle bones) woman general in Chinese history and an outstanding stateswoman. Aside from military affairs, Fu Hao presided over sacrifice. More than 170 of the 100,000 oracle bones unearthed from Yin Xu bear inscriptions associated with Fu Hao with regard to wars, fiefs, sacrifice, childbearing, good or ill luck, illnesses, disasters and so forth.
