Hello everyone, I am Li Yuxin from the China Academy of Cultural Heritage. Today, I will introduce the Palace Museum in Beijing, a famous world cultural heritage site in China and one of China’s first cultural heritage sites inscribed on the World Heritage List.
The Palace Museum in Beijing, also known as the Forbidden City, was built under the decree of the Emperor Zhu Di of the Ming Dynasty. 14 Ming Dynasty emperors and 10 Qing Dynasty emperors ascended the throne here. It was not only the imperial residence for Ming and Qing emperors for over 500 years, but also the center of state power in the subsequent Chinese society. In terms of architectural complex layout and spatial sequence design, the Palace Museum in Beijing is a continuation and distillation of the traditional characteristics of urban planning and palace construction in ancient China, such as axis layout, central symmetry, and court in front and living quarters at the back. The palace construction technology and architectural art reflect the pinnacle of official architecture in ancient China. It bears witness to the integration and exchange of Manchu, Han, Mongolian, Tibetan and other ethnic groups in terms of architectural art after the 14th century. At the same time, over one million precious royal collections, utensils for the imperial family, as well as a wealth of ancient engineering and technical texts, drawings, and three-dimensional models housed in the Palace Museum showcase the unique court culture and laws and regulations of the Ming and Qing dynasties in China.
I invite young people from all over the world to participate in the 2023 “Colorful World” International Youth Painting Invitational Exhibition.
