Annual Monitoring Report

Based on the framework of the World Heritage Convention, in order to fulfill the requirements of the states parties and improve the protection and management capability of China's world cultural heritage, the National Cultural Heritage Administration formulated the Measures for the Supervision and Inspection of China's World Cultural Heritage Monitoring in 2006, which clearly requires the protection and management institutions of heritage sites to submit the previous year's monitoring annual report to the provincial administrative departments of cultural heritage in January each year, and the provincial administrative departments of cultural heritage should submit the annual monitoring report after verification to the National Cultural Heritage Administration in March. Based on form of the second round of the periodic report as well as data index and requirements of China's world cultural heritage monitoring and pre-warning platform, the National Cultural Heritage Administration has organized the compilation of template for the Annual Report of China’s World Cultural Heritage Monitoring, as a reference for heritage sites in China to compile their annual reports. Since 2014, the National Cultural Heritage Administration has compiled and published the annual report of world cultural heritage sites in China, providing possibility for timely comprehending the overall protection status of world cultural heritage sites in China.

Authorized by the National Cultural Heritage Administration, China Academy of Cultural Heritage is responsible for calculating and analyzing the annual monitoring reports submitted by various heritage sites and compiling the annual general report of China‘s world cultural heritage. The general report mainly covers the performance of commitment for the nomination, organization and ability development, heritage protection, heritage influence factors, protection projects and relevant researches, public opinion monitoring etc., aiming to analyze and study overall situation and development of China’s world cultural heritage from a macro prospective, and to put forward the outlook and strategies for the next step. The accumulation of monitoring data through the annual monitoring reports over the years has provided reliable data support for China's world cultural heritage protection management.
